You’d be forgiven for thinking you stumbled into the heady days of the ‘Aughts after hearing the new track from Bishop Allen, “Start Again.” The keyboard drone, the tight snare, the Fountains of Wayne-esque bounce – hell, even the old guys (who look suspiciously like the dot-com founders they are) singing and playing might tempt you into believing it’s sometime in the Bush II administration again. But here we are, ten years later than the sound would suggest and “Start Again” still feels vital, fresh and just what the dog days of summer require, no matter what decade you happen to believe it is.
“Start Again” is the lead single off Lights Out, the first Bishop Allen record since 2007. The full record drops on Dead Oceans on August 19.
