Operators – “True”

Operators

Dan Boeckner is an absurdly charismatic stage presence. He’s whippet-thin with haunted eyes and he throws himself completely into performing a song. He was previously in Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs; now he splits lead vocals and songwriting with Britt Daniel in Divine Fits, and their appearance on Letterman in 2012 was riveting.

Boeckner’s latest project is Operators, a synth-driven band that includes keyboardist/singer Devojka and drummer Sam Brown. The debut EP is cunningly titled EP1, and they’re currently touring in support of Future Islands and playing some shows on their own.

This performance of “True” (recorded last month at KEXP), given its simplicity, packs an extraordinary punch.
