J Mascis covers Mazzy Star’s “Fade into You”

J Mascis is going to release a cover of Mazzy Star’s classic “Fade into You” as a Record Store Day Black Friday (November 28) limited-edition 7″ . I never would have pegged J to evoke the haunting and delicate qualities of the original, but he nails it.

The video below shows J performing the song last summer at Timber! Fest. The single version is a slightly-different – it’s a studio recording and has a much shorter guitar intro. The B-side is an unreleased song called “Outside”, which was recorded in the sessions for Tied to a Star, J’s album that came out in August. All in all, it sounds really nice and lush, and is worth fighting off the hordes of record nerds on 11/28. Sub Pop is limiting the release to 4000 copies wordwide.
