Allo Darlin’ – “Romance and Adventure”
|I’m a sucker for a nice little three-minute pop gem. Whether it’s the Beatles, Teenage Fanclub, the Lemonheads or the latest from Anglo-Australian (Angstralian?) quartet, Allo Darlin’, a song that can grab you, shake you and implant a melody in your head is an under-appreciated pleasure.
Maybe it’s their economy of vision or maybe it’s my short attention span – whatever it is, “Romance and Adventure” delivers just that. Like Liz Phair without the snarl, songwriter and vocalist Elizabeth Morris takes us on a ride long enough to tell a story and short enough to leave us wanting more.
“We Come From the Same Place,” Allo Darlin’s third effort, comes out on Slumberland in October.
