King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – “Cellophane”

0001809130_10The Chocolate Watchband. Blue Öyster Cult. Meat Puppets. The Jesus Lizard. Many bands could never live down such an absurd, goofy juxtaposition of words; only some can live up to the aesthetic challenge posed by their names.  Australian psych rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard now join this select group.

Their new video, the first release from the forthcoming album I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, suggests how they do it.  The seven members comprise a cheerful, kinda creepy cult of psychedelic warriors who fuse 60s garage, 70s kraut, 80s indie, and 90s revivalism for a post-millenial, “we are the weird” vibe.  If you miss the stage concept that garage rockers like Man Or Astroman or the Go-Nuts used to dish out (snackzooka, anyone?), then get thee to the next King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizzard gig.

I’m Your Mind Fuzz comes out on November 11 on Castle Face Records.
