Line & Circle – “Wounded Desire”
|Line & Circle pretty much has it all for a guy like me. First off, like me, they’re from Ohio. Secondly, they relocated to Los Angeles, just like I did, and settled in Echo Park, where I lived for nearly three years. And finally, their sound evokes a “Fables of the Reconstruction”-era REM – and, while my sound doesn’t necessarily do likewise (or even exist, really), I love “Fables of the Reconstruction”-era REM, so we’ll make that comparison work as well.
Mirror-like similarities between the band and I aside, the LA band’s eponymous EP showcases a sound that, while evocative of a certain four-headed Athens, GA-based deity, is so skillful and mature that it’s in no way derivative. It’s a lush, rich mix of jangly guitars, sonorous vocals and heaps of analog-sounding atmosphere that all adds up to equal an EP deserving of far more than a passing listen. And, since you can stream the Line & Circle EP in its entirety, you have no excuse not to give it a try.
