Deradoorian – “Beautiful Woman”

IMG_8441

Some mystical, mind-altering music arrives via the enchanting voice and groove of Deradoorian. Former bassist and vocalist for Dirty Projectors, the Brooklyn group who concocts a similarly heady brew, Alice Deradoorian previews her forthcoming debut solo album with “Beautiful Woman,” an absolutely stunner. I’ll confess, I really can’t distinguish your East Indian drone from your Middle Eastern lullaby, but those inspirations seem to color this alt-New Age track, set in motion by a pulsing krautrock beat. Fans of Dirty Projectors know that the siren voices of its two female members, Alice plus Amber Coffman (who also has a solo album in the works!), comprise the group’s not-so-secret weapon. Thus, the prospect of a Deradoorian solo album is reasonable cause for celebration.

Deradoorian goes on tour this fall opening for ex-Stereolab frontwoman Laetitia Sadler. Prepare to bliss out to an evening of two of the most distinctive, beguiling voices in indie-rock!
