Cate Le Bon – “Rock Pool”

lebon

It’s easy to fall under the spell of Cate Le Bon. When you listen to the breezy, loopy “Rock Pool,” try closing your eyes tightly enough to trigger the fireworks show on your eyelids, and you can just about picture Le Bon as an “it girl” from some mythical North Atlantic country where pilly wool sweaters and corduroy pants count as summer gear, the natives drive VW Microbuses, and the air has the misty quality of a 60s art-house film. (The truth isn’t far off: she hails from Wales.) Now open your eyes, and the psychedelic video for “Rock Pool” keeps the fireworks show going, adding inexplicable presentations of mysterious hats, cuneiform carvings, and oversized handtools for kicks.

“Rock Pool” is the title track from Cate Le Bon’s forthcoming EP, which gathers a clutch of tracks that fell off her last album, the acclaimed Crab Day. The new release also occasions a North American sojourn by Le Bon, co-headlined by her recording partner-in-crime Tim Presley (a.k.a. White Fence). Cross your fingers the two perform some of the songs from their Drinks duo.
