Mastodon – The Missing Link Tour and vinyl reissues

Did you know that April 18 is Record Store Day? What? Yes, an entire calendar day devoted to an actual brick-and-mortar joint that sells some stuff called vinyl. This is a happy thing for sure. This year’s is also an occasion when the turn-of-this-century metal band Mastodon will release a limited edition 12″ picture disc featuring a new song with guest vocals from Gibby Haynes of the legendary Butthole Surfers.

They’ll also be two days into a rad North American tour with their pals Clutch (see dates below).

Throughout this year Mastodon will be reissuing all of the Reprise Records that made them the sludgy metal heroes for those who love their rock to sound like the Melvins flirting with Thin Lizzy. Each re-release will be printed on fabulously groovy colored vinyl and will go a little like this:
March 3: 2006’s Blood Mountain on a mix of solid yellow and transparent green vinyl
June 2: 2009’s Crack the Skye on on baby blue vinyl
August 4: 2011’s The Hunter on a mix of solid white and solid red vinyl
October 5: 2014’s Once More ‘Round the Sun on a mix of transparent green and solid white vinyl
December 8th: Mastodon will release a 500 limited-edition box set featuring all of the band’s Reprise titles on vinyl. (color of vinyl not yet divulged.)

I think we can safely say that this is the year of the Mastodon…and now I must go mark National Record Day in my Filofax.
